Nintendo Wii for Two Million Dollars…Any takers?

Posted by admin in December 16th, 2007

Does anyone want to buy a Nintendo Wii with the starting bid of 1 million dollars and a Buy It Now of $2 million? Me neither.

Crazy people never cease to amaze me. Even after 2 years on the market, it is still nearly impossible to find a Nintendo Wii at retail stores. They are always out of stock and every new shipment was supposed to be there yesterday.

Anyway, ebay is the only place that I was able to buy 2 last year, for my nephews. It appears that one of the greatest sites ever invented is still over flowing with a supply of high demand items.

Unfortunately, that opens the door to ridiculous auctions like this one here.

The seller justifies the million dollar price tag by stating…”because you can.”

The snazzy border on the listing is what almost got me to click the Buy It Now button. Be careful…it is mesmerizing!

Don’t forget to use this link to get free shipping on your Million Dollar Nintendo Wii…lol!

By the way, you can get a Free Nintendo Wii here:

Directory Submission Services Uncovered - Part 2

Posted by admin in December 14th, 2007

This is part 2 of my advice on Directory Submission Services

6. You should spend the time to find web directories that you think can provide benefits other than just a backlink, such as visitor traffic and site exposure. Finding directories that promote your business niche is an alternative to submitting to general directories, but you have to search for them. High quality web directories, with good Alexa rank and a decent pagerank are worth submitting to. One web directory that I recommend is Romow.com. Yes, this site is expensive, but their overall traffic and serps weighed heavily on my decision to submit. I am not saying that you should jump off a cliff by paying for expensive website reviews because there are hundreds of other less expensive directories that offer relatively the same perks. Stay within your budget because directory submission should only be a portion of your marketing strategy.

7. Most directory webmasters can identify legitimate submissions from the boat load of spam submissions they receive, and we do remember the names of some of the spammed sites, but there is a near zero chance that we will ever visit or support those sites monetarily. Hundreds of sites just get rejected while the few sites that you do take notice of will never be perceived as a place to visit. You do not want your site to be known as a spam submission.

8. Many directory submission services utilize software or bots in order to submit your link with hundreds of other sites to free directories. You need to be aware that many of those free directories do not have longevity. They are here today, gone tomorrow, along with the money that you spent for the service. Take a few seconds and visit some of the sites within your category and determine whether or not you would like your site to be listed along with those other sites. If the directory category is filled with MFA (made for adsense) sites, then the directory itself provides little value to anyone searching it. On the other hand, the perceived value of your website will be higher if your listing is among other high quality sites.

9. Many of the directories that your link will be submitted to lack any sense of quality what so ever, because many noobies get into the directory business with dreams of making a quick buck. Well, I have operated quite a few one-of-a-kind web directories for some time now, and I can tell you that it takes time, promotion, and major investment. The only truth about quick bucks in the directory industry is that the bucks are quick, but unfortunately they are running away from you. This is just another reason why so many of your free directory listings will vanish within a month or two.

10. Another downfall of the overload from spam services is that they increase the review queue. Many times your listing could have 1000’s of other sites ahead of yours waiting to be reviewed, so you may be waiting for months to hear back from some sites. This is due to directory submission services spamming web directories so much that the directory owners can’t keep up with reviewing the submissions, and eventually they give up or convert to a paid directory to help filter out the spam. By reducing their spammy submissions, the directory owners can actually spend a reasonable amount of time reviewing submissions in order to maintain quality standards.

The moral of the story is maintain control of your backlinks. Your website backlinks are only as valuable as the site you are listed on. Do not subject your site to poor quality backlinks, because that will negatively effect your serps, traffic, pagerank, and image, which is obviously the opposite of your goals.

Directory Submission Services Uncovered - Part 1

Posted by admin in December 13th, 2007

This is part one of two posts describing reasons why directory submission services should not be a part of your website marketing strategy. Submission services are online companies that you can pay a fee and they will submit your website to 100’s of web directories, along with 100’s of other sites. This service evolved from the demand for quick ways to obtain backlinks from other websites to your own, but there are many potential downfalls to the concept.

1. First of all, I have never understood the concept of paying someone else to submit your site to a web directory. I do understand the concept of saving time, but be careful when you place the fate of your online business in someone else’s hands. Be in control of your marketing strategy. The backlinks that you obtain will reflect back on your sites quality.

2. Links that are submitted by directory submission services usually just end up buried deep in the directory subcategories. You should be aware of where your link is placed. If you can’t find it, no one else can. Find prominent locations within the directory categories and see how many related sites are in your relevant category. Try to be listed within the first or second page. There are usually about 20 listings per page and there is little benefit to being listed as link number 381 in the Blogs category. No one will find your site unless they do a specific search, and they certainly will not sift through 19 pages to find link number 381. If your site category has too many listings, then take the time to evaluate whether you would like to upgrade to a featured listing or category sponsor.

3. Submitting unique content is the key to generating solid backlinks from directory submissions. Unfortunately, with submission services you only get to provide a handful of link titles and descriptions for your website, which results in duplicate content that will not return beneficial search engine results. Search engines will filter out all of the web pages that have your duplicate content and consolidate it into only one search engine result. So after paying for 50-100 submissions you receive at most a couple of search engine results, which is not cost effective advertising.

4. Quantity does not equal quality, or a higher pagerank. Your site will receive more benefit from acquiring natural backlinks from 100 high quality sites, as opposed to links from 1000 low quality link dumps. Those link dumps eventually contain many of the same sites and content, all coming from the same directory submission services. Backlinks from 1000 sites that have all the same content are worthless.

5. Backlinks have benefits, but you need to control where your links are being placed, especially when you are paying for the submission. Why do you want a link on a site that you have never visited? Most likely no one else plans on visiting the site, except for the submission service bots. A backlink is worthless if noone can find it, but I am speaking from the perspective of acquiring traffic, not pagerank.

Here is a link to one web directory that I do recommend. AvivaDirectory has been around a long time and the owner is regarded as one of the top webmasters in the directory industry.
